Graduation Pathways
The path to graduation is not one-size-fits-all. Many pathways are available for students to earn a high school diploma.
Beginning with the class of 2023, all students must meet all of the following:
1. Credits – earn credits toward a diploma with designation:
a. Core 40 – minimum 44 credits/40 for IEP students
b. Core 40 with Academic and/or Technical Honors – minimum 47 credits
c. General (Core 40 opt out documentation required)
2. Learn and Demonstrate Employability Skills through:
a. a Project-based experience, or
b. a Service-based experience, or
c. a Work-based experience
Experience outcomes may be demonstrated in the form of videos, papers, resume, dual credit, certifications, portfolio, projects, slideshows, presentation, reflection of experience, letters of recommendation, letter of employment verification, co-curricular participation, extra-curricular participation, internship, etc.
3. Demonstrate Post-Secondary Ready Competencies – must meet at least ONE of these:
a. Honors diploma (technical or academic)
b. SAT – reading/writing – 480, math – 530
c. ACT – English – 18, reading – 22, math – 22, science – 22 (2 out of 4 with at least one being in English/reading and one in math/science)
d. ASVAB – minimum of 31 on AFQT
e. Industry Certification – from approved DWD list
f. Apprenticeship – federally recognized
g. CTE Concentrator – C average in at least 2 advanced HS courses in state-approved CTE pathway
h. AP/IB/Dual Credit – C average or higher in 3 courses
i. Locally Created Pathway
j. Waiver
Students in the class of 2021 and 2022 will have the option of meeting graduation pathway requirements OR passing the ISTEP+ in Language Arts and Math or qualifying for a waiver. Waiver requirements include: earning state and local credit requirements for diploma, taking the ISTEP re-test at least once each year, participating in remediation, obtaining a 95% attendance rate, earning a 1.67 GPA in all required courses plus 8 in a career academic sequence, and either completing career prep (general diploma, workforce readiness assessment, internship) or teacher recommendation in subject area not passed for waiver.
